Through April 30, 2008 in the Manhattan, the Chapter:
- Responded to 140 fires and other emergencies
- Assisted 788 adults and children with food, shelter and/or counseling following a disaster
Notable Activities in 2008: Manhattan Avenue Blaze Chapter relief workers responded to a 2-alarm fire at a 6-story building at 340 Manhattan Avenue on Monday night, February 11. They provided comfort, caring, food and beverages to residents displaced from their homes. Sixteen 16 adults and 2 children were registered for further Red Cross services, temporary housing was provided for 3 households of 6 adults and 1 child.
West 113th Street Response When a 4-alarm blaze at 269 W. 113th Street in Manhattan the afternoon of January 21 affected 20 apartments, Red Cross immediately set up a Reception Center at P.S. 241 at 240 W. 113th Street. There, Chapter relief workers provided 73 people, 54 adults and 19 children displaced from their homes, with emergency aid for food and clothing. Eleven households of 35 adults and 15 children also received temporary housing.
