Use Your Acting Skills To Help Your City!
June 25, 2007

The American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) is seeking volunteers who wish to assist with the organization's emergency shelter exercise in Queens on Saturday, July 14.

Location:  John Adams High School, 101-01 Rockaway Boulevard, Queens NY 11417

Time: 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

This shelter exercise is focused on reserve volunteers and non-disaster staff, strengthening their skills to better respond quickly and effectively during an emergency in New York. Volunteers are needed to "play” evacuated residents - general assignments will include arriving at a shelter, settling into the shelter and identifying/communicating emerging individual and family needs. Most participants will receive character traits and specific instructions that will not only assist shelter workers, but challenge them as well. No Red Cross training is required for this role. Family and friends are welcome.

Lunch will be provided for all volunteers. Participants will receive letters that recognize the contribution of their time to the Red Cross. These letters are especially important for grade school and high school students who are completing community service requirements.
