Greater New York Chapter volunteers Barbara Robey (far left) and Leah Lubin of Manhattan and Anthony Delgado of Queens work the phones at the Response Center Network (RCN - New York), an emergency call center activated at Chapter headquarters in Manhattan on Tuesday, July 24 to help respond to a high call volume to the National Red Cross 1-866-GET-INFO (1-866-438-4636) hotline.

The call center is housed in Classroom H, which was specifically designed for this purpose and is equipped with networked computers and calling stations.  It has opened three other times since May and has handled more than 1,000 calls this year in support of National Red Cross efforts to provide assistance to clients around the country. RCN - New York is expected to operate through Tuesday, 7/31, for 13 hours a day, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

"It's wonderful,” said volunteer supervisor Robert Lirtzman, “to have trained New York volunteers working to pitch in so professionally to provide assistance to people across the country.”
