Rushing to the scene immediately, for 5 hours last
night Putnam County American Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers provided
emergency support to families affected by a house fire at the in Mahopac. Three
Red Cross Disaster Action Team members provided emergency assistance to eight
families (10 adults and 2 children). Assistance included: temporary housing,
food, clothing and cleaning supplies. Today Red Cross experts are assessing
damage to 18 apartments.
Quick Facts:- 1 family was provided with temporary housing;
- 8 families were provided with clothing and food;
- Damage assessment is ongoing for 18 apartments;
- Clean up kits that included sponges, mops, disinfectants, brooms etc. were
provided;
- 3 Red Cross trained disaster volunteers from Putnam County continue to
provide support to affected families ;
- Other families can still register for Red Cross assistance by calling
1-877-REDCROSS.
The Red Cross will continue to work in cooperation with the Town of Carmel
and Putnam County agencies to assist the affected families.
