Red Cross Providing Support to those Affected by Water Main Break in Queens
February 18, 2005

The American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) remains on the scene at the water main break providing support to residents and rescue workers.

Twenty-five families have been registered (55 adults, 7 children). Six families will be housed tonight. In addition 5 families who were left without gas and electricity have been assisted with food and clothing.

Damage assessment is ongoing; 26 apartments were assessed and others apartments will be assessed in the coming days.

The American Red Cross in Greater NY also provided 18 clean up kits that included sponges, mops, disinfectants, brooms etc.

In addition, the Red Cross set up a reception center and distributed 500 meals to residents and rescue workers.

A Red Cross canteen has been on site providing refreshments to emergency personnel.
