Chapter Aids Brooklyn Residents
January 20, 2008

On the bitterly cold night of Sunday, January 20, with wind chills around zero degrees, a vacate order issued for an 11-story loft building on Kent Avenue in South Williamsburg with fire safety violations forced the evacuation of all residents. Greater New York Chapter relief workers rushed to the scene. They established a Reception Center at P.S. 16 at 157 Wilson Street, where they provided 52 people, 48 adults and 4 children, with snacks, water and hot drinks, along with emergency aid for food. Nine households of 11 adults and 1 child received temporary housing in hotels from the Red Cross. The P.S. 16 Reception Center was closed on January 23 and moved to 114 Taylor St X Bedford Ave.
