The New York United Women Association, a Rego Park-based nonprofit organization that advocates women's rights, interests and equality, and whose members serve the community and celebrate their Chinese heritage and traditions, has donated $1,000 to the Chapter that will be used to support disaster preparedness training for the leadership of the Red Cross Society of China (RSCS).
The training will provide RSCS personnel with skills for general disaster management, flood risk management and earthquake preparedness. After the initial training session, RSCS leaders will develop a training program for provincial and county branches of the Red Cross in China, significantly multiplying the impact of the donation.
Recently, the RCSC provided humanitarian support when a snowstorm stranded thousands of people and created difficult living conditions for several days in China. In partnership with the RCSC, the American Red Cross, through its international services program, helped the RCSC respond to this emergency and continues to support the RCSC respond to other disasters in China.
