New York United Women Association Helps Red Cross Society in China
The New York United Women Association donated $1,000 to the American Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY) that will be used to support disaster preparedness training for the leadership of the Red Cross Society of China. Jean Lai Tong, president of the New York United Women Association, presented the donation to Joan Foley, director, ARC/GNY - Queens. Joining them are New York United Women Association members Wong Yuk Mui, Siu Wan Lai and Ng Ying Wah.

The New York United Women Association, a Rego Park-based nonprofit organization that advocates women's rights, interests and equality, and whose members serve the community and celebrate their Chinese heritage and traditions, has donated $1,000 to the Chapter that will be used to support disaster preparedness training for the leadership of the Red Cross Society of China (RSCS).

The training will provide RSCS personnel with skills for general disaster management, flood risk management and earthquake preparedness. After the initial training session, RSCS leaders will develop a training program for provincial and county branches of the Red Cross in China, significantly multiplying the impact of the donation.

Recently, the RCSC provided humanitarian support when a snowstorm stranded thousands of people and created difficult living conditions for several days in China.  In partnership with the RCSC, the American Red Cross, through its international services program, helped the RCSC respond to this emergency and continues to support the RCSC respond to other disasters in China.

The New York United Women Association is located at P.O. Box 740182, Rego Park, New York, 11374. Telephone is 917-922-9393 and email is nyuwa6@gmail.com .
